The interest in the figure of Giuseppe Toniolo (1845-1918) - economist, sociologist and protagonist of the national and international Catholic movement between the nineteenth and twentieth centuries - followed alternating phases. Alongside the scientific investigations, many reflections on the topicality of his thought were sporadically dispersed in many streams.
In this volume, for the first time, Toniolo's topicality is juxtaposed within an organically conceived structure, with the contribution of the most qualified and authoritative voices of the Catholic world. Brief, rigorous and popular texts are collected by distinguishing three types of issues: the relationship between ethics and economics; democracy and social action; civil ethics, peace and democracy. The explicit interconnections between the various thematic insights allow the reader to grasp the common thread, very topical in the post-COVID 19 era, of a thought that has faced the phases of crises and great socio-economic transformations in the light of Christian values and a conception of the common good entrusted to individual and collective responsibilities that are not afraid of going beyond the patterns of their time.
