In gratitude for the recovery of Francesco Bortolini
A SUNDAY CELEBRATING THE TWENTIETH ANNIVERSARY OF THE MIRACLE OF BLESSED TONIOLO
On June 7th in Pieve di Soligo, a round table discussion on Toniolo and a solemn Eucharistic celebration
"Giuseppe Toniolo: Prophet of Peace, Saint for Today": this is the title of the special day of remembrance, reflection, and celebration that the Christian community of Pieve di Soligo will celebrate next Sunday, June 7, on the twentieth anniversary of the miraculous healing of Pieve di Soligo native Francesco Bortolini, attributed to the intercession of Blessed Giuseppe Toniolo. The healing was organized jointly by the parish of Santa Maria Assunta and the Blessed Toniolo Institute, with the patronage of the National Committee for the Canonization of Toniolo, chaired by Archbishop Domenico Sorrentino. Two decades have now passed since June 7, 2006, when the supernatural event occurred that suddenly, without any plausible reason for treatment, resulted in the permanent physical survival of the young entrepreneur Bortolini, who had fallen from a height in a public place and was in critical condition in the hospital. The trusting and widespread prayer addressed to the Venerable Giuseppe Toniolo by the family and faithful of the parish of the Duomo, then governed by Monsignor Giuseppe Nadal, was recognized as the decisive factor in obtaining this very special grace for the great sociologist and economist from Treviso. This grace was recognized as a miracle by Pope Benedict XV on January 4, 2011, a fundamental prologue to the solemn beatification ceremony of Toniolo which took place in Rome on April 29, 2012, in the Basilica of Saint Paul Outside the Walls.
The program for the morning of Sunday, June 7th
The event begins at 9:30 a.m. with a roundtable discussion in the Giuseppe Toniolo Aula Magna of the Beato Toniolo Oratory on Via Marconi. There will be official greetings from Monsignor Luigino Zago, archpriest of Pieve di Soligo; Annalina Sartori, president of the Beato Toniolo Diocesan Institute. The Ways of the Saints; Enrico Ioppo, president of the Diocesan Catholic Action of Vittorio Veneto; and Stefano Soldan, mayor of Pieve di Soligo. The Toniolo discussions will be led by Matteo Filippetto, director of the Toniolo Institute of Catholic Action of the Diocese of Treviso; Cristina Franceschi, religion teacher and president of the Pro Loco of Trebaseleghe, in the province of Padua; Silvio Pasqualetto, well-known actor and director of the Da Ponte Theater Center in Vittorio Veneto; and Stefano Uliana, director of the Balbi Valier Episcopal College in Pieve di Soligo. The proceedings will be introduced and coordinated by Marco Zabotti, scientific director of the Blessed Toniolo Institute. Following this, at 11 a.m., a solemn Eucharistic concelebration will be held in the Cathedral, presided over by Monsignor Giuseppe Nadal, archpriest of Pieve di Soligo at the time of the miracle and an active leader of the diocesan committee for the beatification of Toniolo, along with the late Monsignor Massimo Magagnin. Following the rite, a procession will take place to Toniolo's tomb, where the prayer for the canonization of Blessed Toniolo will be recited. The morning will conclude with an aperitif for those in attendance and greetings of friendship outside the Cathedral. It should be emphasized that the invitation is truly open to everyone, because this important Tonio event is deliberately intended to be participatory and popular. It is the result of the collaboration of the promoters with the City of Pieve di Soligo, the Diocesan Catholic Action of Vittorio Veneto, the cultural network Vite Illustri Pieve di Soligo – VIP, the Pro Loco of Pieve di Soligo, the Coriandolando per Pieve group, the Alpine Group of Pieve di Soligo, and the Treviso section of the UNCI – Unione Nazionale Cavalieri d'Italia.
Many initiatives on the history and current affairs of Giuseppe Toniolo
The June 7th event in Pieve di Soligo also falls within a period of intense attention and fervent activity regarding the figure and work of Blessed Toniolo. Last May 26th in Rome, two national meetings were held at separate locations, at the Gemelli Hospital and the Vatican, with the participation of the IBT Scientific Director representing the Vittoria area. These meetings focused on the creation of an operational coordination between the most qualified and committed Toniolo Centers in Italy and on the renewed presence and proposals of the committee for the canonization of the distinguished professor from Treviso. On Saturday, May 30th, the IBT Vice President, Marco Zabotti, spoke in Feltre at a conference on Toniolo's work and social solidarity, marking the 40th anniversary of the Arcobaleno '86 cooperative. Furthermore, a large delegation from the choir of the parish of S. Maria di Non, a hamlet of Curtarolo (Padua), led by parish priest Don Leonildo Ragazzo, visited Toniolo's tomb—recounted on the occasion by the IBT—on the morning of Sunday, May 31st, later enlivening the Eucharistic celebration in the Cathedral with their beautiful performances. Finally, on Wednesday, June 3rd, concluding a school-based program on the life and work of Giuseppe Toniolo, the eighth-grade class of the Balbi Valier Episcopal College was guided to the headquarters and factories in Soligo to explore the Latteria Soligo, a historic dairy cooperative founded in 1883 with bylaws signed by Giuseppe Toniolo, and his brother-in-law Gaetano Schiratti as its first president.
