Published on the occasion of the beatification (April 29, 2012), the writings of Giuseppe Toniolo testify to the great relevance of the thought of one of the most prominent Italian intellectuals of the time. Professor of Political Economy, first at the universities of Padua and Modena, then in Pisa, his studies range from economics, to history, to sociology, constantly trying to demonstrate the primacy of moral and religious values. The Social Economy Treaty is considered to be his most important work. Toniolo was one of the major inspirers of the politics of Italian Catholics and one of the architects of their insertion into public life.
