PRESS RELEASE – INVITATION
The Bishop of Vittorio Veneto, Monsignor Riccardo Battocchio, will also be present at the event. The life of Giuseppe Toniolo becomes a theatrical performance at the Careni on October 3rd. A repeat performance for the Pieve schools will take place on the morning of Tuesday, October 7th.
There's great anticipation for the debut of the play "Giuseppe Toniolo. History is the Future" on the stage of the Teatro Careni, scheduled for Friday, October 3rd at 8:45 PM in Pieve di Soligo. The special evening will also feature the Bishop of Vittorio Veneto, Monsignor Riccardo Battocchio, to testify to the Church of San Tiziano's constant attention, sensitivity, and devotion to a prominent figure in our country's Catholic laity, Giuseppe Toniolo.
The event is part of the rich calendar of events for the Toniolo Month 2025, from September 4 to October 7, dedicated to the devotion of the eminent Catholic economist and sociologist (1845–1918). Born in Treviso, he lived in Pisa and was buried in the Cathedral of Pieve di Soligo, the birthplace of his wife, Maria Schiratti. Toniolo was married there on September 4 (the day of the Blessed's liturgical memorial) and also the place he chose as his final resting place. During this same period, the Pieve di Soligo Cathedral is the Jubilee Church for the entire Diocese of Vittorio Veneto.
The theatrical production “Giuseppe Toniolo. History is the Future” is a revival, updated and reworked with some passages of text and scenography, of the eponymous piece of prose, music, and ballet, which was first performed in April 2018 at the Careni Theatre in Pieve di Soligo, as part of the celebrations for the centenary of the death of Blessed Giuseppe Toniolo (1845–1918).
Successfully performed several times, it is now being revived under the joint direction of Silvio Pasqualetto and Francesca Zava, talented actors who also star on stage alongside the talents of the Centro Teatrale Da Ponte of Vittorio Veneto. The ballet is led by Teresa Guidone and her young team, who provide the rhythm for some of the show's key moments. The sixty-minute performance engages and excites audiences with liveliness, intensity, and lightness, offering a rich and profound interpretation of the salient messages of the life and work of Blessed Toniolo, also in reference to the historical and social context of the diocese of Vittorio Veneto and the community of Pieve di Soligo. Developed from direct contributions from members of the Pieve di Soligo parish, the script aims to highlight the key moments in Blessed Toniolo's life and to highlight the extraordinary relevance of his teachings in the fields of ethics, economics, social issues, the common good, and peace.
The initiative was born thanks to the proposal of the "La Pieve" Pastoral Unit for the Toniolo Month, and immediately found effective synergy with the Beato Toniolo Institute, also benefiting from the contribution of the City of Pieve di Soligo. The theatrical performance is supported by Banca Prealpi SanBiagio, Banca della Marca, Sogno Veneto, Stimm, Latteria Soligo, and Cantina Colli del Soligo.
The premiere on October 3rd at 8:45 pm at the Careni Theatre in Pieve di Soligo is open to the public, subject to availability.
For schools located in Pieve di Soligo, two performances are scheduled for the morning of Tuesday, October 7—the anniversary of the Blessed's death and the date of the final ceremony of the 2025 Giuseppe Toniolo Award—to promote wider awareness of an "illustrious" life that contributed so much to the education of young people and the integral development of the community.
